League Makes Adjustments To 2025 Schedule

by Sports Information

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The National Gridiron League (NGL) has officially announced a strategic schedule adjustment for the upcoming 2025 season, designed to better support its teams and ensure a successful launch to league play. The regular season, originally scheduled to kick off on Saturday, May 17th, will now officially begin on Saturday, May 31st. In conjunction with this change, all NGL teams will now open training camp on Saturday, May 17th.

The league’s leadership made this decision in response to feedback from team operations staff and considering early-season facility scheduling conflicts across several team markets. The adjustment also allows franchises additional time to finalize player signings and prepare for a high-quality, competitive season.

“This decision was made to provide our teams with the best possible foundation for success,” said NGL Commissioner Joe McClendon III. “We’ve been actively listening to our coaches, general managers, and venue partners. The additional two weeks will offer critical breathing room to complete player evaluations, streamline equipment shipments, and ensure each team has access to its facility without compromise.”

With eight active franchises preparing for the 2025 season, facility coordination and operational readiness are vital. Teams across the league are utilizing a variety of stadium venues, including city parks, fairgrounds, and temporary stadium sites. Some of these venues required later availability due to spring scheduling commitments, which prompted the league’s decision to shift the season’s start.

Equally important, the adjustment enhances each team’s ability to solidify its roster and gives coaching staffs added time to identify standout talent through tryouts and individual player evaluations. “The extra time is a win for everyone,” added Commissioner McClendon. “It supports better football on the field and gives players a more thorough opportunity to earn their spot.”

Training camps will now officially open on Saturday, May 17th, marking the beginning of team activities. Players will report for physicals, conditioning, and on-field practice as teams begin to install their systems and finalize rosters. With only 24 roster spots available per team, the competition promises to be intense from day one of camp.

League teams are expected to make final roster decisions in the two weeks leading up to the new season opener. Once the regular season begins on May 31st, fans can expect a high-energy brand of professional eight-man football that blends the intensity of arena-style play with the open-field excitement of outdoor gridiron action.

The NGL’s commitment to quality and player development remains at the forefront of every league decision. The league prioritizes sustainable growth and a first-class experience for players, coaches, and fans by aligning the schedule to support recruitment efforts and resolve operational concerns.
